From a custom-designed pump station to a scalable plug-and-play platform.

Today, cooling and energy systems must be built faster, expanded more easily, and operated with ever-greater reliability. Especially in data centers, industrial production facilities, and other critical cooling applications, traditional pump stations developed specifically for individual projects are therefore increasingly becoming a bottleneck: high engineering costs, numerous interfaces, long installation times, and a constant stream of custom designs drive up costs and project risks.

KSK System Kühl Technik takes a different approach.

One platform. Three performance levels. Modularly expandable.

KSK Pumpenskids are standardized hydraulic power units for water and water-glycol circuits. Pump technology, frequency converters, switchgear, instrumentation, valves, and internal piping are integrated onto a defined frame platform, assembled at the factory, and tested prior to delivery (similar to Figure 1).

Three interchangeable sizes cover flow rates ranging from 10 to 450 m³/h. Various redundancy concepts allow for adaptation to a wide range of applications, from simple industrial cooling tasks to high-availability critical cooling applications. The result: Instead of developing a new pump station for each project, a proven platform is configured to suit the specific application.

Configure-to-Order Instead of Engineer-to-Order

Standardization does not mean sacrificing flexibility.

Depending on the application, a variety of pressure and performance ranges, redundancy concepts, measurement and monitoring functions, as well as various materials and piping systems can be implemented. For outdoor applications, the platform can be configured as a protected container solution, including climate control and freeze protection. For particularly demanding systems, additional functions are available, such as leakage monitoring, water treatment, automatic makeup, position monitoring, advanced pressure, temperature, and flow measurement, as well as interfaces to emergency power supplies. Dual-circuit systems with primary and secondary sides, heat exchangers, and bypasses can also be implemented based on the same platform.

Designed for quick integration

The key advantage of a standardized pump station is realized not only during procurement but throughout the entire project lifecycle.

Defined hydraulic and electrical interfaces simplify planning and system integration. Extensive prefabrication shifts assembly and testing efforts from the construction site to a controlled manufacturing environment. An I/O check and functional test prior to delivery reduce risks during commissioning. All components remain easily accessible for operation and maintenance.

At the installation site, essentially only the media, power, and higher-level control interfaces need to be connected.

This transforms a multitude of individual components into a tested, functional unit. Scalable to meet growing cooling requirements.

Cooling capacity is increasingly being designed in a modular fashion, particularly in data centers and industrial production environments. The KSK platform follows precisely this principle. Multiple pump skids can be combined, so that additional hydraulic capacity does not necessarily have to be provided by a completely new central pump station. System capacity can thus be scaled to match actual demand and expanded later.

This reduces premature oversizing, increases the cost-effectiveness of the entire system, and creates a technical foundation for repeatable system designs across multiple locations.

The Benefits for Operators, Planners, and Equipment Manufacturers

This means that the pumping station will not become a new standalone project, but rather a standardized component of the cooling and energy infrastructure:

  • Less engineering.
  • Greater planning reliability.
  • Faster installation.
  • Defined interfaces.
  • Factory-tested quality.
  • Flexible redundancy.
  • Scalable performance.
  • Easy expandability.
  • Maintenance-friendly design.
  • Complete technical documentation.

Typical Applications

The platform is particularly well-suited for data centers and AI infrastructure, industrial process and machine cooling, semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, refrigeration and recooling systems, energy centers, and primary/secondary systems for heat transfer and heat recovery.
